In celebration of the latter nuptials-between superhero Northstar and his handsome, long-term catch, Kyle (who, fun fact, is a sports company’s events manager)-New York City’s venerable comic-book shop Midtown Comics hosted the real-life wedding of Scott Everhart, 39, and Jason Welker, 33, at its downtown location on Wednesday. Shortly after DC Comics reintroduced Alan Scott-the first superhero to assume the Green Lantern persona-as an openly gay man, its comic competitor, Marvel, upped the open-mindedness ante by planning the medium’s first same-sex, interracial wedding in a major comic series.

In an attempt to promote equality and tolerance, Marvel and DC Comics recently made dueling announcements about gay superheroes.
